Africell and the Fundação Arte e Cultura have launched an innovative program through which fourteen young adults from foster homes in Luanda will join Africell for a paid six-month internship.

The “Caminho do Bem” (“Path for Good”) project was announced in March, when Fundação Arte e Cultura, the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL), and Africell Angola signed a cooperation agreement aiming to promote professional training and employability for young adults in Angola’s foster home system. The project helps participants develop in-demand skills and professional competencies and prepares them for long-term career success. Africell, meanwhile, get access to the unique perspectives and benefits from the contribution of an exciting talent pool that might otherwise go untapped.

Africell Angola CEO Jorge Vazquez welcomed the cohort by explaining how excited the company is to onboard its newest recruits. “We are pleased to open our doors to such a strong and resilient group of young people who fight for their future despite all that life has thrown their way”, he said. “We hope that this initiative will boost the lives of each participant and set the course for brighter futures. We also expect that Africell as a business will benefit from their energy, insights and work ethic during the six months that they are with us”.

The internship scheme is one part of the broader “Caminho do Bem III” project. Overall, it offers:

  • Professional training: young adults participate in vocational courses in areas with high demand in the job market.
  • Paid internships: young adults apply the knowledge acquired in hands-on roles at Africell Group, a key partner of the project and a pan-African leader in social impact.
  • Social support: Fundação Arte e Cultura provides social support to the young adults throughout the program, offering psychological assistance, professional guidance, and other services.

“The most inspiring thing about the Caminho do Bem programs is the spirit and character of its participants”, says Naama Margalit, Director of Fundação Arte e Cultura. “Working with Africell on the third edition of the project is fantastic because it offers a real, corporate environment in which the talents of these young people can be stretched and in which they can make a real impact”.
